The Secrets of Water Science and Cymatics with John Stuart Reid
BANA welcomes our very special guest speaker,
John Stuart Reid, a professor of acoustic physics at the Cymascope Foundation in England, and the inventor of the CymaScope, an instrument that makes sound visible in pure water. Based on Faraday Wave principles, commonly known as ‘cymatic science,' several important discoveries have been made with the CymaScope, including creating the morphology of the Earth’s earliest life forms in water at specific sonic frequencies, suggesting that sound was a formative force in the creation of life in Earth’s primordial oceans. His study on how dolphins see with sound was published in the Journal of Marine Biology, research that could lead to the first interspecies conversation. His study on differentiating between the sounds emitted by healthy cells and cancer cells, published in the Water Journal, has the potential to create a new medical intervention for cancer. His most recent research focuses on the effects of music on the longevity of red and white blood cells, to be published in 2026.
Reid earned his degree in pure electronics at Newcastle University, where he worked with high-energy pulse experiments and radiation chemistry. After running a successful acoustics consultancy for three decades, he was inspired by his 1997 experiments in the Great Pyramid of Egypt to focus exclusively on cymatic science. To share the beauty of cymatics with a global audience, he developed the CymaScope app, which allows users to visualize music and vocal frequencies in real time. He is a frequent lecturer at global conferences and has authored chapters for medical textbooks on sound therapy and music medicine.
